GOV’T URGES PROPERTY OWNERS TO KEEP CLEAN PREMISES Tuesday, March 4 – Non-compliant owners and occupiers of properties in the capital have less than a week remaining to clean their premises and avoid possible penalties.
Chief Planner in the Town and Country Planning Department Mr. Louis Potter said those persons should comply with a Government request by this Saturday, March 8. According to the Chief Planner notices were sent out last month to affected persons and he is hopeful that they have already begun their clean-up. “The notices required that the relevant properties should be cleaned within a 28-day period that started on February 8 and ends on March 8. Failure to comply will result in the issuance of Amenity Orders under Section 55(4) of the Physical Planning Act, 2004,” he said.
“Several notices were given in respect of properties that are unsightly and injurious to our community due to the presence of waste, rubbish, derelict articles, or the dilapidated state of the property,” the Chief Planner told the Department of Information and Public Relations.
The Town and Country Planning Department is collaborating with the Office of the City Manager and the Planning Authority to notify the public about the requirements that are covered under Section 55 of the Physical Planning Act, 2004.
The Town and Country Planning Department works to ensure sustainable development in the British Virgin Islands by promoting the wise use of land, an efficient communication system, and the facilitation of harmonious change while enhancing the Territory’s strong cultural heritage, among other duties. It works under the Premier’s Office.
