PORT CLEARANCE PROCEDURES REINSTATED PDF Print E-mail
Written by GIS
Thursday, 07 May 2009

The port clearance procedures that were put in place on 1 May, 2009 to mitigate the possible impact of the Swine Flu (H1N1) virus on the Territory will be lifted effective tomorrow Friday 8th May, 2009.

After consultation, the local Pandemic Influenza Committee and Her Majesty’s Customs agreed to reinstate the normal clearance procedures at all ports of entry in light of the fact that no cases of the New Influenza A/H1N1 Virus has been detected in the Region and in the Territory.  However, should the WHO raise its Pandemic Phase Level to 6 consideration will be given to have these procedures put back in place.

Persons using ports of entry are advised that additional screening and inspections by officers of the Immigration Department, Environmental Health Unit and the Department of Agriculture will continue at all ports.

Several Government agencies including Her Majesty’s Customs have been working closely to monitor the flu epidemic and to implement appropriate measures to safeguard the Territory from the possible impact of an Influenza Pandemic.
