PRIVACY AND QUIET MEET DIVINE VIEWS - The BVI is blessed by the fact that there is barely anywhere one can build without the benefit of a spectacular view across blue waters to the sand-fringed green hills of the other islands.
It is important to bear this in mind when we tell you that the view from Haver's Hill, that magnificent vista across the Sir Francis Drake Channel to Norman and Peter Islands, is one of the best views in the Islands.
The stunning Heaven On Haver's, situated about half way up the hill, has been skillfully designed to allow you to enjoy this magnificent vista to the full. Inspired by the style of local architect Viviana Jenik, whose ethos has always been that you don’t need as much enclosed space as you think you do, the aim was to have plenty of out-door living space around a relatively small core of building, with plenty of plants both in and around the house. The house and the garden appear to merge and a deck extension of epic proportions gives the best of both indoor and outdoor living in one glorious space.

The house is arranged over three levels, as it and its gardens step deftly down the hillside. On a mezzanine toward the back of the principal floor are two bedrooms and a bathroom. The principal floor is the living area; where an exquisite kitchen and a relatively compact, but sheltered, living room spill into ample out-door dining/living areas, gardens and that vast deck. Below is an imposing master bedroom suite with en-suite bathroom and a further level of garden.

The house is actually semi-detached, but it is almost impossible to see this from anywhere on or off the property, unless it’s from a boat mid-Channel. For all its open views across wide and beautiful places, you will be struck by just how very private and quiet the situation is. What you see today has evolved over some eight years and, apart from the success of the design, you notice the quality of the materials and the freshness of their appearance.
The mezzanine, reached by stairs leading to a gallery, is currently used for a child’s bedroom, served by a bathroom containing WC, bath and vanity unit; and a guest suite with sleigh bed, painted beams, louvred cupboards and its own balcony.

A kitchen of adroit design snakes its way around the pillars supporting the mezzanine, before opening pleasantly onto the interior living space. The kitchen was inspired by a (spacious) ship’s galley and, to ensure quality, the units were built by a ship’s carpenter. Sub-Zero fridge/freezer, Viking stove, stainless appliances and sinks line the route from the garden door. Here there is a serving arch. Beyond, there is an extra preparation area, a wet bar with sink and a desk. There is an abundance of clever space, both for storage and food preparation. Behind the kitchen is a down-stairs bathroom.

Outside the kitchen, sheltered by a pitched wooden roof, the dining space occupies the angle between the side of the house and the stone retaining wall that marks where the hillside resumes its climb to the top of Havers Hill. Bordering its other two sides is the terraced garden, where greenery and colourful tropical blooms abound. And, to top it all off, there is a Jacuzzi where the happy home owner can wallow blissfully while admiring the stunning view.
To the front of the kitchen is office space and sitting area, a snug sanctum for rainy days. Sliding doors open onto the deck, a truly impressive space. Comfortable easy chairs and sofas grace the tiles of the deck and rich hardwood is much in evidence. A lofty pitched roof of treated pine soars above, allowing the air to circulate. And yet, on three sides, “walls” are completely open, with screens and roll-downs providing cover when necessary. A polished wood balustrade of a traditional Caribbean fretwork pattern runs round the room at waist height. Otherwise, the space between the supporting pillars of the roof is pure fresh air, framing the superlative views. Although entirely wooden in appearance, the framework of posts and cross beams uses steel girders, prefabricated abroad and subsequently clad in wood.

From the deck a flight of wooden stairs twists down to the lower level. Here is a large and lofty bedchamber, rich in natural stone and polished Eper wood flooring, which neither a four-poster bed nor a giant wardrobe can fill. There is also room for built in wardrobes. The seaward side of the room is a series of large picture windows, framed in polished wood surrounds and the finish is superb. To complete the tour there is a generous en-suite bathroom that includes the ultimate and inspirational loo-with-a-view with tiled floor, large walk-in shower with a glass brick wall and a beautiful curved vanity unit and Mexican ceramic sink.

This is a bespoke home of great beauty and utility, designed to exploit challenging topography and to take full advantage of its stunning views. Some of the furniture pieces can be included, and any family would find it a ready-made delight.
